§1 Objective and validity

This user agreement is the binding basis for connecting a computer to the campus network of Ilmenau University of Technology (FeM-Net). Part of this agreement are the implementation regulations in the current version.

All terms of use of the institutions and organizations hierarchically superior to FeM-Net (e.g. computer center of the Technical University of Ilmenau, German Research Network) also apply without restriction to the users of FeM-Net.

The connection of the halls of residence to the FeM-Net is a privilege and by no means a right. This requires all participants to use the resources and facilities provided by FeM e. V. responsibly. With his/her signature, the user confirms that he/she will pursue the objectives of the association and strictly adhere to the regulations listed below

§2 Authorized users

The use of FeM-Net is only permitted to students and employees with a valid user authorization from the Computer Center of the Ilmenau University of Technology.

An application to use the FeM-Net may only be rejected with good reason. However, no entitlement to use can be derived from this.

A granted authorization of use is person- and location-bound and cannot be transferred.

§3 Withdrawal of the right of use

FeM e. V. reserves the right to exclude users from network operation temporarily or permanently in justified cases.

Exclusion is possible in the following cases, among others:

  1. A serious breach or several minor breaches of this user agreement or the applicable implementation regulations.
  2. Withdrawal of the right to use the computer center of the Ilmenau University of Technology.

§4 Functional guarantees

FeM e. V. does everything in its power to maintain the functionality of the FeM-Net. However, no functional guarantee can be derived from this. Possible interruptions or restrictions in network operation cannot be ruled out.

Members who intentionally or unintentionally disrupt the functionality of the network or endanger other members may be disconnected from the network without warning. They will not be reactivated until the cause has been clarified. The member who caused the incident must prevent it from happening again.

§5 Liability

The connection of a computer to the FeM-Net is always at the user's own risk. FeM e. V. is only liable for damages (e.g. hardware damage or data loss) that are directly or indirectly related to the connection to the FeM-Net in the event of intent or gross negligence on the part of its representatives.

In the event of damage to or destruction of facilities or parts of facilities under the management of FeM e. V., the person responsible shall be liable in full.

Each user is fully responsible for the computer operated by him on FeM-Net and for the influences emanating from it.

§6 Data protection

  1. The user data required for the proper administration of FeM-Net is stored.
  2. Every user can request information about the data stored about them.
  3. The stored data may only be used in connection with the administrative tasks of FeM e. V.
  4. Disclosure of the data in any form is prohibited.
  5. FeM e. V. reserves the right to log data and connections on the FeM network segments.
  6. The information obtained in this way is only evaluated for troubleshooting in the network and is irretrievably deleted 1 year after creation.
  7. Members' personal data will be irretrievably deleted 1 year after leaving the company.

§7 Network

The TCP/IP protocol family is used as the network protocol within FeM-Net. The transport of other protocols cannot be not be guaranteed.

§8 Hardware

Only technically faultless devices may be operated on the FeM-Net.

§9 Important rules of conduct

  1. It is strictly forbidden for users to listen to and/or log data on the network. Unintentionally obtained data may not be used and must be irretrievably deleted immediately.
  2. All activities aimed at gaining unauthorized access to data, computers, etc. are prohibited and will result in immediate exclusion from FeM-Net.
  3. Changing the assigned network parameters (IP address, host name, etc.) or the unauthorized manipulation of data in the network is prohibited. Faults, impairments, detected misuse or external attacks must be reported to FeM e. V. immediately.
  4. A user's data traffic must not unreasonably interfere with the activities of other users. The transfer of large amounts of data should be carried out at times when the network load is expected to be low.
  5. Each user is responsible for the security of their own computer. The user IDs on computers connected to the FeM-Net may not be made accessible to third parties under any circumstances.
  6. Any transfer of the access provided by FeM e. V. to third parties (Internet service provider activity) is prohibited.
  7. Any operation of more than one computer on an end device connection (Network Address Translation (NAT), IP masquerading, proxy activity or similar) is not permitted.
